Welcome

On behalf of the New England Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center, it is our pleasure to host the 3rd Annual Stepping Forward-Staying Informed Consumer Conference. While many conferences are intended for professionals and researchers to share information with each other, today's presentations are principally and uniquely designed for individuals living with SCI, their family members and caregivers, as well as for health professionals, researchers and physicians interested in spinal cord injury rehabilitation and research.

The enthusiasm and energy generated since the first conference has firmly cemented our commitment to hosting this conference annually, as well as presenting bimonthly evening lectures at Boston Medical Center. We are excited to be able to provide these opportunities to you and to the community. In our endeavor to be a valuable resource for knowledge and support, we encourage your feedback and suggestions for future speakers and discussion topics.

As we began planning this year’s conference, our goal was to assemble a speaker panel with expertise in areas of interest as requested by consumers. These include information about Emergency Preparedness, Health and Wellness, Sexual Function, and an update on specific research programs. I feel we achieved that goal. Today’s speakers are widely viewed as specialists in their respective fields, bringing you the most up to date information available presented in an easy to understand format that encourages discussion and presents opportunities for further learning. We are both honored and privileged to present such renowned experts today whose work is dedicated to the field of spinal cord injury and disability. I hope you take the opportunity to ask questions during the Q+A sessions and speak with the presenters during breaks.

In an effort to keep this conference affordable to consumers, we have reached out to businesses and organizations that we regularly partner with for financial support. Please visit the exhibits in the reception area and thank our sponsors for their generosity as this conference would not be possible without their continued support.

In closing, I thank you all for being here. We hope you find today’s conference informative and educational. Please watch for future events that may be of interest to you as we continue to serve New England.

Sincerely,

Steve Williams, MD
